Iconic Franklin Square Fountain To Be Removed, Temporarily

Syracuse, N.Y. - If you are looking to take some picture in front of the Fountain in Franklin Square we have some bad news.

The cast metal fountain located in the park on Plum Street, will be temporarily removed for restoration and repairs.

The removal is scheduled to start Tuesday October 31st.

Specialists from Robinson Iron, who originally fabricated the fountain, will dismantle and transport it to specialists in Alexander City, Alabama. There, the fountain will be stripped down to bare metal, repaired, painted and coated with a protective finishing to prevent corrosion.

The fountain has been a focal point in Franklin Square since the neighborhood’s redevelopment in the late 80s.

Work on the fountain is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
