Syracuse, N.Y. - An air quality health advisory is going to be in effect today for the entire Central New York region as wildfires in Canada continue to burn. Many say its just smoke but there's more to it but Dr. Mike Roizen of the Cleveland Clinic says people need to take air quality alerts seriously.
Dr. Roizen says the smoke particulates cause inflammation which can increase heart attacks and strokes.
Roizen says this would be a good time for those K95 masks especially anyone who has health issues such as asthma, COPD, and bronchitis could suffer some problems like shortness of breath and throat irritation.
The best action is to remain indoors with the windows closed and your air conditioning on and if you have air purifier use it.
