Koalas Coming To The Rosamond Gifford Zee For A Limited Engagement

Syracuse, N.Y. - Rosamond Gifford Zoo will soon have some new residents.

Two Koalas will be making the zoo their home all be it, temporarily.

These big-eared Australian marsupials are rare at zoos and in fact only 10 zoos in the US are permitted to care for koalas.

The two females coming to the Zoo are named Kumiri and Kolet and can be seen until September.

Executive Director of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Ted Fox said “The temporary acquisition of these koalas is an important milestone in our zoo’s conservation mission, and speaks to the expertise and qualifications of our animal care team. Thanks to the Friends of Zoo, we can provide care to these remarkable animals while educating our zoo family as well.”
