TSA At Syracuse Hancock Airport Finds Loaded Handgun During Screening

Syracuse, N.Y. - TSA officers at Syracuse-Hancock International Airport caught a Texas man with a loaded handgun.

The 40 caliber handgun was loaded with 11 bullets with one in the chamber when it was deiscovered at the security checkpoint. Police say the man explained that he drove to New York from his home in Texas and forgot he had loaded gun with him.

Civil penalties for weapons can reach as high as $15,000, depending on the circumstances.

The TSA reminds people that those who want to bring their guns with them when they fly need to pack them properly in their checked luggage, and declare them at their airline check-in counter to be transported in the belly of the plane where nobody has access to firearms during a flight.
