Republican Candidate For Governor Attacked During Campaign Stop

Fairport, N.Y. - The Republican candidate in the race for New York governor says that he's OK after being attacked during a campaign stop.

Last night, Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin was making an appearance in a community near Rochester when 43-year-old David Jakubonis attempted to stab him. Zeldin was able to grab Jakubonis' wrist and other people at the event stepped in to detain him.

In a statement, Zeldin said he's as resolute as ever to do his part to make New York safe again. Governor Hochul also condemned the attack and said she was relieved to hear that Zeldin wasn't injured. Jakubonis was charged with attempted assault and released on his own recognizance.
