Syracuse, N.Y. - Filling up your tank in Onondaga County will get a little cheaper starting June 1st
The Onondaga County Legislature has approved the cap on the gas tax at $3 a gallon.
Drivers would continue to pay the current four-percent tax on gasoline that costs up to $3 per gallon but wouldn't have to pay a tax on any amount exceeding that limit. The vote was 14-1.
The original proposal was to cap it at $4 a gallon, but budget forecasts allowed the county to be more aggressive.
The cap goes into effect June 1st.
New York State will be suspending its gasoline tax from June 1st through December 31st.
