Syracuse, N.Y. - Shirley Goddard the woman who along with her husband ran a Syracuse non profit called HOME, today pleaded guilty to stealing over $650,000 from that organization.
The money, provided by Medicaid, was for services to disabled children and adults, but Goddard spent it on shopping and gambling. Shirley also falsified loans to clients and then said she was reimbursed.
As part of the plea, Goddard will repay the money to the AG’s office, which will then return the money to the organization.
AG Letitia James has also filed a civil suit against Goddard and her husband seeking to bar them both from every running a charity again.
Goddard is scheduled to be sentenced May 13th.
