Onondaga County Changing Procedure After Testing Positive

Syracuse, N.Y. - The number of Onondaga County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 is continuing to surge by triple-digits. There were 845 new coronavirus cases reported yesterday which is the third-highest single-day total of the pandemic. County Executive Ryan McMahon says there are over 62-hundred active cases and 157 people hospitalized for treatment of the illness. The countywide death toll is unchanged at 946.

McMahon also says contact tracers can not keep up with the positive cases being reported. Officials say it will be up to those who test positive to report the result to the County through their website. McMahon says people shouldn't anticipate getting the legal letter from the county ordering them to quarantine.

People in Onondaga County who want to get tested for COVID-19 will be able to get screened at the former ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt tomorrow. A walk-in clinic is being held from eight-30 a-m until four p-m in the old library location. Officials say they're trying to offer more testing so they work towards slowing down the spread of the virus. Testing has returned to the F Shed at the Regional Market. Information on other clinics in the area can be found by visiting the county's COVID-19 testing website.
