Assembly Republicans Looking To Suspend Sales Taxes In NY On Some Items

Albany, N.Y. - Assembly Republicans are announcing legislation that would suspend state sales tax on a wide range of goods and services, to provide New Yorkers with some financial relief amid ongoing inflation and skyrocketing prices.

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay says the bill introduced would immediately suspend state sales tax charges on various items such as gasoline, personal care products, housekeeping supplies and food purchases.

A recent report by Comptroller Tom DiNapoli showed that New York tax revenue has brought in $7.2 billion more than originally projected through the end of September.

Barclay says "let’s pass on some needed savings to people who have fought through a pandemic and are now dealing with a crushing cost-of-living crisis "
