Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh Gets Approval From Common Council For Expenditures

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh is pleased today after the Common Council approved three requests of his.

They agreed to hand out $1 million to city residents and landlords who are being hurt by the pandemic but have not yet been eligible for rental assistance.

The council also agreed to the request for $171,000 to expand the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system to most of the city’s north side.

The mayor also asked for and got, $554,000 to implement de-escalation training for police officers and equip them with less-lethal taser devices.

All of the money coming from the American Rescue Plan Act relief fund the city received.
