Syracuse Fire Department Receives Grants, In Excess Of 3.2 Million Dollars

Syracuse, N.Y. - Good news today for the Syracuse Fire Department. Chief Michael Monds announced that the department received two grants from FEMA.

One if those known as the SAFER Grant (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response)and is valued at 3.23 million dollars. With the SAFER grant they can hire and train about 12 new firefighters to join the ranks.

The other grant, the Assistance for Firefighters grant (AFG) is worth over $73,000 and will allow the department to purchase 9 new thermal imaging cameras

Chief Monds said "This funding will help ensure that the citizens of Syracuse and the surrounding communities will always receive some of the best fire and emergency services in our country."
