This September 11th marks the 20th anniversary of the day which changed life as we know it. Onondaga Community College is planning two events to commemorate the milestone:
Friday, September 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Members of the campus community can go to the main quad and share their memories or thoughts on a remembrance banner. Each person will also have the opportunity to tie a ribbon to a tree.
Saturday, September 11 at 10 a.m. - The College will host a brief Memorial Ceremony outside the Whitney Applied Technology Center at the 9/11 site near the traffic circle.
Syracuse University alumni were part of the country’s response to the attacks, including as first responders, medical providers, counselors, military personnel, policy makers and members of the media.This year, the anniversary will be marked with a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 8:46 a.m. in Hendricks Chapel that will also be live streamed.
Fort Drum community members are invited to attend the annual wreath-laying ceremony Friday at the 9/11 memorial in front of Clark Hall, as we mark the 20th year since the attacks of 9/11.The commemoration will honor the victims of the September 11 attacks and the commitment and sacrifice of our first responders and service members. Attendees are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. and enter the Clark Hall parking lot from Enduring Freedom Drive, as the Mount Belvedere entrances will be blocked to traffic beginning at 8 a.m.
Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at 8:30AM., the City of Syracuse will hold a ceremony at Fayette Firefighter’s Memorial Park to honor the thousands of innocent lives lost, including many first responders. Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, and Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II, will preside over the ceremony, which will include a candle lighting and a 17-minute period of silence marking the time between the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers.
