Albany, N.Y. - Governor Kathy Hochul is adding to the number of people who died of COVID in New York state.
The new governor said 12,000 more people died than previously reported by Governor Cuomo on his last day in office. Her office says nearly 55-thousand-400-people died from COVID based on death certificate data sent to the CDC. That's up from around 43-thousand-400 deaths.
While appearing on MSNBC this morning, Hochul said she's releasing the information "so people know the nursing home deaths and the hospital deaths are consistent with what's being displayed by the CDC."
