Albany, N.Y. - Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie says the Assembly judiciary committee will suspend its impeachment investigation into Governor Cuomo.
Heastie said that their attorneys believe the NY constitution doesn’t allow them to impeach an elected official that’s no longer in office.
Heastie says the work will be turned over to the other investigating bodies.
He said the probe has "uncover credible evidence” on multiple issues involving Cuomo, from sexual harassment to use of state personnel to write his memoir to misleading disclosure of nursing home data during the pandemic, but they cant continue impeachment once Cuomo has left office.
