Judiciary Committee Planning Public Hearings In Cuomo Impeachment Probe

Albany, N.Y. - The New York Assembly's Judiciary Committee is planning public hearings later this month in the Governor Cuomo impeachment inquiry.

Committee chair Charles Lavine says they'll also hear expert testimony concerning both sexual harassment and the impeachment process, which hasn't been used in over 100 years. He says updates will be provided on Monday, August 16th and then again on the following Monday, after which public hearings can begin. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie says the majority of the legislative body has no confidence that Cuomo can remain in office, but adds it's important to let the process play out.

The hearing stems from allegations Governor Cuomo sexually harassed multiple people, among other claims. He's denied the sexual harassment allegations brought against him, including after the AG filed a report accusing him of harassing multiple women. The impeachment probe is also examining claims Cuomo misused public funds for his book, as well as claims he covered up the true number of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.
