Syracuse, N.Y. - The Rosamond Gifford Zoo welcomed a new resident Thursday.
The new occupant is 4 years old, about 6 feet tall, and weighs 250 pounds.
The new addition is an Andean bear, named Bjorn. Bjorn was born at the Queens Zoo in 2016 and has lived at Smithsonian’s National Zoo and the St. Louis Zoo before arriving in Syracuse.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan Mcmahon said “Having an internationally accredited zoo allows our community to encounter rare animals, like Bjorn, that they get attached to and care about protecting.” McMahon said "We are so excited to have this rare and magnificent animal in the care of our world-class zoo.”
