City Of Syracuse Says 65 Deer Were Removed In Management Program

Syracuse, N.Y. - The City of Syracuse says 65 deer were removed in the months of February and March, as a result of the 2021 deer management program.

Due to COVID-19 the start of the program was delayed and took place over a two-month period, about half as long as last year. It provided more than 1,904 pounds of venison or about 5700 hundred meals for donation.

The program is an effort to address the impacts of deer overpopulation, including deer-vehicle accidents, damage to gardens and parks, and the public health risks such as Lyme Disease from deer ticks.
