CNY Leaders React To Derek Chauvin Verdict

Local leaders in CNY are reacting to the verdict in Derek Chauvin's trial.

In a statement, Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner said that the nation "witnessed a family get justice for the murder of their beloved family member".

Onondaga County DA Bill Fitzpatrick said that the verdict likely would've never happened in the past, adding that he wasn't sure Chauvin would have even been fired.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said he hopes the verdict "brings comfort to George Floyd's family in knowing that justice has been served".

Common Councilmember Khalid Bey added that while justice was served, the country's justice system is still in need of improvement.
