Gov Cuomo Signs Bill That Gives Low Income Families $15 A Month Internet

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo today signed into law a bill that requires all Internet service providers to give high-speed Internet access to low-income households for $15 a month.

The Affordable Broadband Bill is designed to give more people access to high-quality, affordable Internet and was one of the significant conclusions of the Reimagine New York State Commission.

The new law requires all internet providers to offer high-speed Internet including all equipment, fees, and surcharges.

Cuomo also said that if families cannot afford $15 a month, the state is setting up a fund that will help 50,000 students get access to the internet.
