Onondaga Sheriffs and State Troopers Save Man Trapped In Burning House

Town of Van Buren, N.Y. - Onondaga County Sheriff Deputies along with State Troopers rescued a man trapped in a house fire this morning in the Town of Van Buren.

Around 4:30 crews went to a house fire on Cedarwood Boulevard. Sheriff Deputy Laura Collins arrived on the scene and began pounding on the door and windows to alert the people inside. A woman eventually came to the front door and was taken out of the burning home but told police her 23-year-old son was still inside.

They yelled for the male as the smoke and flames were too intense to enter. He came to a window saying he was trapped.

That's when Collins and Trooper’s, John Moretti and David Henrie, along with Deputy William Adamo sprang into action and began to stack garbage bins to allow the man to make it out the window to safety.

The man and woman were treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.

Fire investigators say the cause was a burning cigarette on the rear porch.
