Gov. Cuomo Set To Give State Of The State Address Today

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo will be laying out his vision for the year ahead during his State of the State address today.

The address is expected to focus on several key issues including recreational marijuana legalization, sports betting, and how to close a $15-billion budget shortfall. The governor has been reluctant to discuss tax increases until he learns whether the state will get a bailout from the federal government.

A portion of the speech will also center on New York's continuing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the health crisis, the governor is presenting the State of the State virtually.

Cuomo also wants to expand the state office that addresses domestic violence, and he wants to allow the courts to make abusers pay damages.

And he wants to clear away outdated regulations that have limited the expansion of telehealth services.
