Gov. Cuomo Will Again Push Pot On Lawmakers

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Andrew Cuomo is again pushing state lawmakers to get recreational marijuana legalized in New York.

Governor Cuomo will give his State of the State address Monday and lay out his plan. One part of his plan would create the Office of Cannabis Management which would oversee both medical and recreational use of the drug. Since 2019, the governor has pushed the Legislature to legalize recreational marijuana but those efforts have fallen short.

The State faced a multi-billion-dollar budget hole prior to the pandemic. It has been doubled as a result of the health crisis. The governor believes New York could take in 300-million-dollars a year in tax revenue from marijuana sales.
