Cuomo Says State Will Withhold State Funds If COVID Rules Aren't Enforced

Albany, N.Y. - Gov Cuomo in a briefing today said the statewide infection rate stands at .95%, but when “hotspots" which stand at 6.2% are added in the total goes up to 1.1%. 7 people died in the past 24 hours, and 938 people are hospitalized that's an increase.

Cuomo said "The virus will constantly flare up in certain locations, and the trick, the art form, is going to be identifying these small sites where it flares up and be able to stop it before it spreads."

He said the state is sending a letter saying he will withhold funding from New York City, Orange County, Rockalnd County, the Town of Ramapo and the Village of Spring Valley if they don’t enforce social distancing regulations. That would also include schools in those areas.

Gov Cuomo announced that the state is leving a fine on a musical group, The Chaimsmokers". Syracuse University alumnus Andrew Taggart, is a member of the group. The $20,000 fine is a result of them performing a concert in the Hamptons in July. A video from the event showed large crowds packed together and dancing at the show without social distancing.
