New York State Unites Teachers Union Sues New York State

Albany, N.Y. - New York State United Teachers union (NYSUT) has filed a lawsuit against New York state.

This comes as school aid budgets have been slashed. The teachers are seeking the release of money that was withheld in July, August, and September and looking to stop any future withholding or delays in school funding payments.

Schools across New York are facing a 20% reduction in state aid, which will require schools to cut staff to make up the shortfall.

In the lawsuit, NYSUT claims the state can avoid the cuts by drawing on $7 billion in reserves and settlement funds.
