Syracuse Common Council Approves Rental Legislation

Syracuse city council members have formally passed legislation that could prevent some evictions.

The measure was created to give the city control over landlords that refuse to address safety issues and code violations. Landlords who aren't on Syracuse's rental registry will not be allowed to collect rent or evict tenants until they register. Council members say that a majority of properties that should be registered are not.
