Onondaga County Legislators Vote To Begin Furloughs, Cuts

Onondaga County lawmakers have given the green light to begin COVID-19 related layoffs.

In a 9-7 vote, the County Legislature gave County Executive Ryan McMahon approval to cut up to 250 positions as needed. Legislator Chris Ryan said that while steps could have been taken to prevent furloughs, time was of the essence in resolving the budget gap.

Onondaga County currently faces a $40 million shortfall if federal aid doesn't come soon.
