Hammond,N.Y. - A Syracuse woman is dead after she drowned in the St. Lawrence River.
State Police say 28 year old Cookie Brown fell into the water after a canoe that she and another person were in capsized at about 9 a.m. off of Indian Point Road in the town of Hammond, St. Lawrence County.
Police says she was not wearing a life jacket. Her body was recovered from the water by State Police Dive teams. Police say the other person in the canoe made is safely back to shore.
