Crouse Resuming Outpatient Elective Surgeries This Week

Syracuse, N.Y. - Crouse Hospital in Syracuse will be restarting outpatient elective surgeries later this week.

Those procedures, set to resume Thursday, have been on hold to make sure the facility had enough beds for coronavirus patients. Crouse officials say they'll be contacting patients who had their procedures delayed. Those individuals will also have to be tested for coronavirus before being allowed in the hospital.

Gov. Cuomo had ordered the surgeries to stop Statewide as our region braced for coronavirus. He gave the go-ahead in out region to resume elective surgeries, last week. However, hospitals must keep 30 percent of their bedspace empty in case there is another wave of COVID-19.

The surgeries are necessary for hospitals to run profit. Many hospitals did need to cut salaries and furlough workers when the surgeries stopped. The open beds are expected to keep the financial strain on Hospitals that normally run closer to full capacity.

St. Joseph's Health officials announced that elective surgeries were also resuming this week.
