Oswego, N.Y. - A new proposal presented by Representatives John Katko and Anthony Bindisi would allow for property owners along Lake Ontario to sue the International Joint Commission.
Its called the “IJC Accountability Act” and will allow property owners to sue over damages from the devastating flooding in 2017 and 19. Currently, federal law prohibits the IJC, an international organization responsible for the water levels on Lake Ontario, from being held liable for damages.
Many blame IJC's Plan 2014 which set up new regulations on water levels the Lake, for the flooding and this new act will allow property owners to sue the IJC and receice money if they win.
