Law Enforcement Asked To Share Thoughts About New Bail Reform Laws

Albany, N.Y. - Members of law enforcement are being asked to share their thoughts with lawmakers about the state's controversial bail reform laws.

As of January 1st, pretrial detention and cash bail was eliminated for a large number of non-violent felony and misdemeanor cases.

Republicans have announced a new "Repeal Bail Reform" task force and will hold hearings across the state to discuss the issue with police and the public. The taskforce will collect testimony from law enforcement, prosecutors, victims, local leaders, and the public. Taskforce advocates say Democrats failed to hold a single public hearing before passing the legislation last year.

Democrats are reportedly in talks with District Attorneys and law enforcement leaders to discuss possible changes to the legislation.
