Syracuse, N.Y. - A judge had no choice today, but to release a man who was accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend.
24 year old Darien Shellman, was charged with second-degree manslaughter for the shooting death of his girlfriend, Sarah Tombs in April of last year. He was loading a gun that Tombs used, as a security guard at DESTINY USA. Shellman told police that Tombs grabbed the gun in Shellman’s hand and it went off, shooting her in the head. Tombs died at the scene.
According to offcials, he was released because he is not facing a crime that allows for jail before trial under the state’s new bail reform law.
