Syracuse Police Set To Name Officers Involved In New Years Eve Shooting

Syracuse, N.Y. - We expect to learn by tonight the names of the Syracuse Police Officers involved in a New Years Eve shooting.

22-year-old Michael Viola of Syracuse was critically shot by officers on Tuesday. Onondaga District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick says he charged at officers with a hatchet before they shot him.

It is the procedure of they Syracuse Police Department to release the names of officers involved in a shooting 72 hours after the incident. It is also the procedure that a grand jury will determine whether or not the officers acted appropriately.
