Albany, N.Y. - Legislation being introduced in the state legislature would more than double the state's beer tax.
The bill would raise the excise tax on beer distributors from 14 cents per gallon to 30 cents per gallon.
That would bring the beer tax in line with the state’s wine tax.
Supporters say the tax hike would generate more than $50 million in annual revenue. That money would go to the state's public universities.
