Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner Gets More Time To Get Certified

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner has been granted an additional year to complete his certification. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services , granted his request.

Buckner asked DCJS to consider the challenge of simultaneously taking over and managing the department, completing hundreds of hours of classroom training, and dramatically improving his physical conditioning.

Chief Buckner says while he has completed his coursework, he said he is not yet ready for the Fitness Test requirement that includes a 1.5 mile run.

Buckner said. “I’m confident that, with additional time, I can complete the physical training requirements. And that is my goal. Mayor Walsh authorized my inquiry of DCJS, so I am further motivated and determined to keep my commitment to him.”
