Albany, N.Y. - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is threatening to pull National Grid’s license for its natural gas system in downstate New York.
Cuomo sent a letter to the company giving it two weeks to figure out how to address gas shortages that affect about 20,000 homes and businesses in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island before he pulls the license. The utility has placed a moratorium on new gas hookups.
National Grid imposed the moratorium in May after the state rejected a $1 billion expansion to a gas pipeline. Cuomo wrote the moratorium shows the company has failed to provide "adequate and reliable" service.
