Onondaga County Democrats Poised To Win Historic Comptroller Race

Syracuse, N.Y. - For the first time since 1991, voters are choosing a Democrat to lead a Countywide office.

Syracuse City Auditor holds a 3,500 vote lead vote lead over Republican Incumbent Matt Beadnell. There are little more than 3,500 absentee ballots that remain to be counted, but nearly every one would need to come in for Beadnell in order for him to hold on to the position.

Democrats hold a voter enrollment advantage over Republicans. Masterpole has also been a Democratic Party stalwart having previously served on the Onondaga County Legislature and Syracuse Common Council.

This was Beadnell's first time seeking elected office. He was filling the position after Bob Antonacci was elected to the State Senate. Beadnell has been on leave from his previous position with the Comptroller's office, since being appointed Comptroller earlier this year. He could return to the position even if he loses to Masterpole.
