Syracuse University Head Football Coach Dino Babers is firing his defensive coordinator.
Coach announced Brian Ward's departure in a statement. Defensive ends coach Steve Stanard will serve as the interim defensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
The firing comes as Syracuse is on a four-game losing skid and sits just 3 and 6 heading into a bye week. Ward's firing follows a loss where SU gave up the most rushing yards ever in a single game.
Ward has been with Babers since his days at Bowling Green. In Ward's first three seasons as defensive coordinator the defense showed steady improvement . However, the defense has struggled this season despite returning most of last year's talented group.
