Albany, N.Y. - A once-prominent doctor once convicted of killing his wife will be getting a new trial.
In a 5-2 ruling, the State's highest court upheld the overturning of Robert Neulander's murder conviction. A new trial hasn't been scheduled.
Nuelander was convicted in 2015 of beating his wife Leslie to death in their DeWitt mansion in 2012 and trying to make it appear that she fell in the shower. He was convicted and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
His conviction was overturned by an appellate court in June 2018 due to text messages a juror exchanged with people outside the courtroom while the trial was underway.
The justices of the State Court of Appeals heard arguments in September on whether former doctor deserved a new murder trial.
Neulander has been free since posting bail in July 2018.
