Trump to No Longer Host G-7 Summit at His Florida Doral Resort

President Trump Suggests His Doral, Florida Resort As Site For 2020 G7 Meeting

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that next year's G-7 summit will not be hosted at his Doral resort in Florida after criticism on both sides of the aisle for the choice.

"Based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020," he tweeted. "We will begin the search for another site, including the possibility of Camp David, immediately."

The decision was initially announced by White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Thursday, who told reporters that the advance team in charge of finding sites for the world's seven leading economic powers, found the Doral resort to be the best option for the event.

However, the announcement created a furor in Washington D.C. after critics pointed out that hosting the summit could benefit the president financially - a violation of the emoluments clause in the Constitution, which forbids any gifts to a president from a foreign power. The House had prepared a non-binding resolution they are expected to vote on next week, condemning the decision to host the G-7 at Trump's resort in Miami.

Trump defended his decision on Twitter, writing that he thought he was "doing something very good for our Country by using Trump National Doral, in Miami, for hosting the G-7 leaders," adding that he would have done so "at ZERO COST to the USA."

The president said he was not looking at other option, including Camp David in Maryland, where Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush had hosted the two previous G-7 summits.
