Lawmakers Announce Bills To Close Loopholes In Limo Safety Rules

Albany, N.Y. - Some New York lawmakers have announced a package of bills they hope will prevent tragedies like the one in Schoharie from happening again.

The measures call for improved limousine safety standards at the federal level. If approved, there would be new guidelines for seat belts and other safety equipment and state grant programs would be set up to get potentially dangerous limos off the road.

The legislation will likely be introduced when Congress returns to session later this month.
