Syracuse , N.Y. - Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick had announced a new training program, in preparation for the red flag laws.

The training will provide information to school administrators, police officers, and prosecutors, about a newly created mechanism called Extreme Risk Protection Order.

Its designed to take guns away from people who are likely to hurt themselves or others.

Under the new law Police, school administrators, DAs, or family or household members of the person could file a petition seeking an ERPO. That would require that firearms, rifles, or shotguns be surrendered.
