State Fair Day 1: Changes And Security

NYS Fair

Geddes, N.Y. - Tens of thousands of Fair fans will be heading through the gates this morning for Opening Day of the Great New York State Fair!

Visitors will be treated to great food, rides, music and other entertainment options.

Today's is Governor's Day. Admission is only $1. Also, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is taking Amtrack to the Fair this year from Albany.

Today on Chevy Court:

  • 3:00pm - Mike Powell & The Black River
  • 8:00pm - Bad Company

Experience Stage:

  • 4:00pm Max Scialdone
  • 7:00pm Grand Funk Railroad

New this year; if you are looking for the International Building it has been renamed to the Eatery!

There are also changes to the Centro Park-N-Ride shuttle service. Shuttles will be running again from locations across Central New York to the fairgrounds - but the buses will now be dropping off near Gate 10.

Before you fret about needing to walk all the way to Chevy Court, there is also a new Express-Shuttle (those pick-up trucks that tow the seating behind them) that will take you from the West-End, to the East-End and back again. The other shuttles that make stops along the way are also available for you.

With more than a million people expected at the State Fairgrounds in the coming days, state, local and federal law enforcement agencies will work together to keep people safe.

Fair officials say they look at the newest potential threats from around the world and adjust their security plans to meet them. Every employee is also trained to contact police if they see something suspicious. Fairgoers are being urged to do the same thing.

Just as past years, the Fair runs through Labor Day, which is Monday, September 2nd.
