Syracuse, N.Y. - The Catholic flock in Syracuse will receive its's new Sheppard this afternoon.
Father Douglas Lucia will be installed as the 11th bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse this morning at the Cathedral at 2:00 p.m.
Bishop Robert Cunningham announced his retirement last year. The diocese had been waiting to hear about a replacement from the Vatican. Lucia says that the appointment by the pope came as a complete surprise.
New York archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan will attend.
