More Meetings This Week On I81's Future

LaFayette, N.Y. - Folks are going to get two more chances this week to share their thoughts on the future of I-81.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday night at Grimshaw Elementary School in LaFayette, while another is scheduled for Thursday night at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Both meetings will run from six until eight p.m.

Earlier this year, the DOT threw its support behind the "community grid" option for the highway. That project calls for a stretch of road haighway that runs through downtown Syracuse to be demolished and replaced with street level roads. The highway north and south of the city will be kept. Interstate traffic will move to what is now I-481.

Construction could take about five years.
