CNY Says Goodbye To Judicial Icon

Syracuse, N.Y. - Longtime State Supreme Court Judge James Tormey the Third will be laid to rest today.

Tormey died after a brief illness on Saturday. His funeral begins at 11:30 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church in Syracuse, where he was an active parishioner.

Tormey was first elected to the Onondaga County Legislature in 1976. He was first elected to the bench in Syrcause City Court in '87, and would then go on to the State Supreme Court in '95. Since the year 2000, Tormey oversaw the 300 judges and courts in Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, Jefferson, Herkimer and Lewis counties.
