State Attorney General To Take Over Syracuse Officer Involved Shooting Case

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Attorney General of the State of New York has taken over the case of the recent police shooting death of DeWayne Watkins.

Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick says his office will cease its investigation, turn over all information gathered to the Attorney General Letita James and completely cooperate in any matter as directed by the AG.

The 74-year-old man was shot by a Syracuse officer on the city’s South Side after the man pointed what turned out to be a starter pistol at the officer.

That officer is on administartive leave.
