Oswego man has been charged with polluting Lake Ontario

Oswego, N.Y. - An Oswego man has been charged with polluting Lake Ontario.

Gary Hallinan, pleaded guilty to negligently discharging wastewater from the City of Oswego's Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Lake. Thats a violation of the Clean Water Act.

He admitted that in December 2014, while he was the Superintendent of the Treatment Plant an important piece of equipment to process wastewater stopped working. Over five months, Hallinan, allowed solid sewage to flow into the Lake.

He faces up to 1 year in prison, and a $100,000 fine.
