Gov. Cuomo Ordering Preparations For Potential Lake Ontario Flooding

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo has directed state agencies to begin deploying resources to protect communities along Lake Ontario from potential flooding.

Because of recent flooding along the St. Lawrence River in Canada, regulators have reduced the flow of water out of the lake.

The lake level is more than a foot above average, and is expected to go higher in the coming weeks.

The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has begun coordinating regular preparedness calls with local agencies, and is deploying sandbags and aquadams along the lakeshore to mitigate the possible effects of flooding before it occurs.
