Man Accused Of Setting Grandmother On Fire Competent For Trial

Utica, N.Y. - A man accused of setting his grandmother on fire has been found mentally competent for trial.

Prosecutors say that Andre Anderson beat, stabbed, and set his 68-year-old grandmother, Freddie McKinney, on fire during a January domestic dispute in Utica.

Anderson's attorney was not present to accept or challenge the results of the mental exam. The matter was adjourned for two weeks. During that time Anderson's lawyers will either accept the exam or ask to seek their own evaluation.

Anderson is charged with first-degree murder. He could spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole if he's convicted.
