West Genny Principal Fired, School Bus Driver Retires At School Board Meet

Two West Genesee School District employees ended their tenure at last night's school board meeting.

The board voted to terminate Executive Principal Shannon Coholan effective April 8. Coholan was apparently involved romantically with former district superintendent Chris Brown. Brown resigned last month, and Coholan has been on paid administrative leave since then.

The board also accepted the retirement of bus driver Michael Barnes. Members of the transportation staff believe Barnes was bullied into retirement. Barnes was the bus driver who permitted a 21-year-old to ride the bus along with middle school students. Interim superintendent Mike Scheido called the situation "inexcusable," and noted protocol has been tightened. But other drivers say no formal policy for what happened was in place, and that others were involved in what happened.
